Get the right shoes for your child

How to get the right shoes for a toddler?

It isn't easy to put a pair of shoes on a baby…
Their little feet are chubby and a little soft…
Mod8 gives you some advice.

  1. Sit your child on your knees, facing away from you.
  2. Hold their ankle in one hand
  3. Open the shoe as much as possible (laces loosened, tongue open, etc.).
Put the shoe on with the other hand, in a circular movement from top to bottom, keeping hold of your child’s ankle.
  4. Firmly hold both sides of the shoe and pull towards you to adjust the foot to the bottom of the shoe.
  5. Tighten the lace around the instep and pull the buckles tight. Make a double bow so that the foot is held securely.

Your child is now ready to experience new adventures, safely supported in their shoes

How to measure your child's foot?

Your child’s feet grow very quickly… The size of a baby’s foot changes every 2 to 3 months! For children over the age of 3, it changes every 6 months…
To ensure that your child is comfortable in their shoes, it is therefore essential to measure their feet correctly… Mod8 explains how:

  1. Print out the foot measure and then put your child’s foot on top, in the position indicated. The heel must be perfectly aligned on the starting line...

  2. Your child must be standing and their toes must be perfectly flat. Otherwise, a whole different size may be measured.
  3. When the foot is positioned correctly…
  4. …outline the end of the foot with a pencil, keeping the toes flat.
  5. You then need to accurately interpret the outline. Once again, just a small discrepancy can change the whole size!

The advantages of mod8

You can also measure the length of your child’s foot standing up and compare it to the length of the insole.
Outline the bare foot on a plain sheet of paper and measure the length between the two ends:

The length of your child’s foot + 5mm minimum and 8mm maximum = The length of the insole they require.

To help you, the length of the insole is included in the technical information for each model and for each size…

The length of your child’s foot + 5mm minimum and 8mm maximum

=

The length of the insole they require.

How to check that your child’s shoes are the right size?

  1. If the insole can be removed, simply take it out of the shoe and compare it to the child’s foot
  2. You can also check the size by putting your child’s foot directly onto the shoe’s outsole, heel to heel. There should be a minimum gap of 1.5 cm between the edge of the foot and the edge of the sole.
  3. Shoes must fit a child’s foot properly:
    • A child can’t always say if they are comfortable in their shoes… Especially when they are really young! The wrong size can have very negative consequences:
    • A shoe which is too short or too narrow compresses and damages the foot. The toes cannot move freely. The child falls over frequently. They may communicate their discomfort by refusing to wear the shoes…
    • A shoe which is too long or too wide does not support the foot correctly. It slides inside and gets hot. The child has difficulty controlling their movements and falls…

The advantages of mod8
